S1955 Bill

This is a new bill being voted on end of this week. Here's a bit of info on this bill. This bill is aka Enzi bill. This is a bill many should be worried about passing house. This bill would allow HMO's (along with any other insurance) to by-pass state laws on insurance regulations. Some benefits that could be lost would be preventative medicine i.e.: child well care, cancer screening, and again allow 'drive through deliveries'.

This bill is being opposed by AARP, AFL-CIO, Academy for Eating Disorders, American Academy of HIV Medicine, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, American Association of People with Disabilities, American Cancer Society, American Chiropractic Association, American Diabetes Association just to mention a few.

"S. 1955 does nothing to limit health insurer overhead and profits, the fastest growing component of health care costs.

Supporters claim that S. 1955 will decrease the number of uninsured workers. But “insuring” more people in plans that don’t provide real coverage is a sham. Insurance that doesn’t meet basic health care needs means patients will not be able to afford care even though they’re counted as insured." quoted from FTCR.

Here is a link to read the bill http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:S.1955:, I would hope that one would take time to read the bill entirely, for as with all bills the bad stuff is hidden in the middle somewhere.

For those of you that would like to petition this bill I have found online petition here is that link http://www.petitiononline.com/OppS1955/petition.html

I would suggest that you research this topic quickly and thoroughly since it is up for vote I believe the end of this week.

There is more info at the FTCR (http://www.consumerwatchdog.org/healthcare/co/?postId=5950&pageTitle=Commerce+Clause+and+Health ) and Families USA ( http://www.familiesusa.org/issues/private-insurance/enzi/ ).

After you get to know this bill a little better let me know if you are in agreement with it or not.

This bill is clearly a sham. Please contact your Senator to stop this dangerous and destructive legislation.
